Stop trying to create hysteria over th...Dear NDTV,<br /><br />Stop trying to create hysteria over the one-day 'punishment' meted out to you for "violating the law on live coverage of anti-terrorist operations in Pathankot ."<br />Now, if you're really convinced that you have been wronged, you would have knocked at the doors of the highest court in the country by now.<br /><br />But you didn't.<br /><br />We all know why.<br /><br />Because you know that you DID violate the law of the land.<br /><br />Because you remember well what the Supreme Court had said in 2012.<br /><br />The Supreme Court had said, “It's beyond doubt that the way the operations were freely shown, made the task of the security forces not only exceedingly difficult but also dangerous and risky... ...Any attempt to justify the conduct of the TV channels by citing the right to freedom of expression would be totally wrong and unacceptable in such a situation. The freedom of expression, like all other freedoms under Article 19, is subject to reasonable restrictions. "<br /><br />The Supreme Court further observed, "The coverage of the Mumbai terror attack by the mainstream electronic media has done much harm to the argument that any regulatory mechanism for the media must only come from within."<br /><br />That it didn't come from within, is clear from the fact that caring two hoots for the lives of the defence personnel and civilians in Pathankot earlier this year, you telecast the anti-terrorist operations live.<br /><br />So it became imperative for the Govt to warn you. This one-day ban is not a 'punishment' as you see it. It's actually a warning. A warning that sends out a message, to one and all, that while criticism of Govt's programs and policies by anyone in this country is welcome, any action, intended or unintended, by anyone, that compromises the security and integrity of the nation will not be tolerated.<br /><br />So stop playing the victim card. Any attempt at drawing comparisons of this symbolic action with the BLACK days of Emergency can convince only those who want India to wither away. Fortunately for this country, the majority now understands your devious designs.<br />Gone are the days when Indians took your words for Gospel truth.<br /><br />Not any more.<br /><br />The times have changed.<br /><br />The law that you always want to be applied to other Indians will now be applied to you too.<br /><br />Remember!
