Character And Attitude OF Indian Politicians

Should I urinate to fill up empty dams? Ajit Pawar says-- Times of India
MUMBAI/PUNE: State deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar stirred up a hornet's nest with comments — laced with crass humour — ridiculing the acute water and power shortage in parts of the state. He was forced to issue a public apology on Sunday after his remarks came in for all-round criticism .

Addressing a public meeting in a village in Pune's Indapur last night, Pawar mocked Bhaiyya Deshmukh, a farmer from a drought-hit area in Solapur who has been on a hunger strike at Mumbai's Azad Maidan, demanding more water.

"He has been fasting for the last 55 days. If there is no water in the dam, how can we release it? Should we urinate into it? If there is no water to drink, even urination is not possible," Ajit said.
Referring to the loa shedding situation in parts of the state, "I have noticed that more children are being born since the lights go off at night. There is no other work left then."

Yogesh Joshi, Hindustan Times  Pune, April 07, 2013

At the Indapur function, the minister had also attributed to the state’s population growth to the frequent power cuts.
“Because there has been increased power cuts during nights, the birth rate has gone up. What else can people do if there is no power,” Pawar said.
“You must be thinking that Ajit Pawar has come here drunk in the afternoon,” he said, laughing.
Pawar’s remarks were reportedly met with laughter by the men in the audience; the women were silent.
The opposition parties have reacted furiously to Pawar’s remarks.

Kashmir policy dictated by spy agencies, says Jairam Ramesh--Hindustan Times

Prasad Nichenametla, Hindustan Times  New Delhi, April 08, 2013
Spy agencies are dictating India’s Kashmir policy and the Centre isn’t sensitive enough to the aspirations of the state’s people, Union minister Jairam Ramesh has said.
At the end of a two-day trip to the Valley, the first by a central minister from outside the state following Afzal Guru’s hanging in February, Ramesh said Kashmir had come a long way from its troubled past and the time was now ripe for good politics and growth “What Kashmir needs is the right political engagement, not a strategy influenced by spy and security agencies. It’s the political vacuum that allowed the growth of militant, secessionist groups.”

Rajiv Gandhi was ‘entrepreneur’ for Swedish jet, U.S. cable says (The Hindu )

Revelation contained in Kissinger-era documents obtained by WikiLeaks

Much before he became Prime Minister, during his years as an Indian Airlines pilot, Rajiv Gandhi may have been a middleman for the Swedish company Saab-Scania, when it was trying to sell its Viggen fighter aircraft to India in the 1970s.
The astonishing revelation that he was the “main Indian negotiator” for a massive aircraft deal for which his “family” connections were seen as valuable, is contained in the Kissinger Cables, the latest tranche of U.S diplomatic cables obtained by WikiLeaks and accessed by The Hindu as part of an investigative collaboration. The cables will be released on Monday.
The British SEPECAT Jaguar eventually won the race, from which Saab was forced to withdraw by the U.S.
Rajiv Gandhi, who kept away from politics until he was pushed into it by his mother Indira after the death of his brother Sanjay in 1980, came into public life with a squeaky clean image. Years later, a controversy over bribes paid in another military deal with a different Swedish company, Bofors, was to lead to Rajiv’s and the Congress’s defeat in the 1989 elections.

Food inflation may be result of growing prosperity: PM Manmohan Singh - NDTV

Cannes: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday said inflation in food articles in India was indeed a problem, but pointed out that grain prices have been relatively stable.

"What prices are going up are prices of vegetables, prices of eggs, prices of fish, that is the secondary and tertiary food items. That is a reflection of the demand for these commodities exceeding supplies," the Prime Minister said, addressing reporters at the G20 summit at Cannes.

"That in turn, to some extent at least, is a sign of growing prosperity of our country. If our national income increases by 8 per cent per annum and our population is increasing at 1.6 per cent per annum, the per capita income is growing at 6-6.5 percent," he said.
