The Information and Broadcasting ministry has reliably sent a show cause notice to Hindi news channel NDTV India over its coverage of the terrorist attack on Pathankot airbase which "prima facie" violated norms. It has been found that sensitive information was broadcast by it even when the operation was still on and two of the terrorists were known to be alive. It has come to the ministry’s notice that when the operation was on, the correspondent of the channel gave details and locations of sensitive spots in the airbase. Telecast of such strategically sensitive information could affect the operations and could even cause damage.

It is existing guidelines that media coverage in such cases should be restricted to periodic briefing by an officer designated by the government.

Media men and promoters of TV channels who are playing foul game must be punished without delay. There are some extra ordinary media men who want to help terrorists in the name of timely reporting. They are the persons who paint a news with colour of caste and community.

Similarly many persons on social sites are submitting provocative, false and fabricated news and vulgar materials . Government has to be alert from these anti-social elements who in disguise of news reporters and whi arecin the name of freedom of speech are maligning image of the country and who are dividing the society on the basis of caste and community. It is they who gave caste colour to Rohit suicide case and who cleverly and with a dirty strategy in mind remained silent on suicide of three girls which took place in Tamilnadu and which did not report violent procession taken out by a section of persons in Malda, Purnia and Pathankot.

In my opinion ,Indian media and social sites are posing a great threat to Indian society, Indian peace and social harmony and if not monitored quickly and regularly , the damage caused by their biased , ill-motivated and prejudiced reporting will become irreparable.

Freedom of expression is good and healthy for Healthy and sound democracy. But if the freedom is not used wisely and cautiously and if such freedom is not monitored and regulated every day ,it may become dangerous and prove harmful for entire society and for country as well. Sense of responsibility must be in mind of every person who use freedom of expression.

Media channels had broadcasted sensitive information during Mumbai terror attack too and they were cautioned at that time also . But media men did not take lessons and repeated the same mistake. Such media men deserve tough punishment so that it sends a crystal clear message to all media men and all TV channels that whoever plays foul game with news and unity and integrity of nation will not be spared .

This is possible in our country that a Chief Minister holding Constitutional post abuses Prime Minister of the country , openly threaten entire administrative system and who do not fear even challenging legal system and judicial order . This is possible in our country that a political leader or social worker openly abuses top level ministers and top level public servants without any substantial evidence and incite violence in the society and cause damage to public property and government do not take any action. This happens only in India that followers of various political parties attack police and indulge in arsoning and destroying public property and no action is taken against them by the government of that state.

Everyone has the right to protest improper or unreasonable decisions of the government or of the society , but he or she has got no right to damage public property or cause disturbance in functioning of public or private offices. Government must make a toughest law to prohibit such nuisance created everyday by selfish politicians on non-issues or by anti-national elements on false and fabricated issues and punish all  who disturb peace of society and who try to disturb and break social harmony or who incite communal divide. Similarly ,Government must punish media men who telecast false and fabricated news which incite sentiments of people and cause communal or caste based rioting .


Show cause notice to news channel on Pathankot attack coverage -Economic Times

NEW DELHI: The Information and Broadcasting ministry is sending a show cause notice to Hindi news channel NDTV India over its coverage of the terrorist attack on Pathankot airbase which "prima facie" violated norms.

Sources told PTI that the ministry has decided to issue a show cause notice to the prominent news channel after it observed that sensitive information was broadcast by it even when the operation was still on and two of the terrorists were known to be alive.
